Wheeled Laptop Bags - The Ultimate In Convenience
Posted on: August 31, 2011
Technology is an amazing beast - it is said that computing power is doubled every 18 months, and this is rapidly apparent when you look at laptops. These devices, some smaller than 1" thick, have more computing power than rooms full of computers had a few decades ago. However, no matter how thin the laptop, owners always find themselves with a massive laptop bag. It's almost inevitable - power cords, ac adapters, mice, headphones, extra batteries, the list goes on and on. And those are just computing accessories - what if you have other office supplies? Personal stuff you want to store? A notepad or pen? Pretty soon you're lugging around a bag fit for a mule. Luckily, there is an answer: wheeled laptop bags.
The concept should be pretty self explanatory: it's a laptop bag, with wheels. The advantage should be obvious: no longer do you have to carry this weight on your shoulder, instead you can just wheel it along with you like luggage. Of course, having a laptop bag on wheels isn't without it's own disadvantages - if you're in a crowd, they can be a nightmare to handle. You'll constantly run into people, run over their toes, get bumped into, etc. Of course, you could always pick it up and be no worse than you started - except now you have the option of wheeling it around later.
When searching for wheeled laptop bags, you should keep in mind the environment that you will be using it in, which directly relates to the style of the bag. If you're a student or a traveler, something made out of nylon and resembling a backpack might work fine. However, if you're working in a high-profile legal office, perhaps you should consider a more briefcase like bag.
There are plenty of brands out there, and which one you look at depends on what your purpose is and your budget. For instance, for the business traveler with money to spend, Tumi is a great brand. The clean, classic shape and look will never go out of style, and looks just as good on the baggage claim as it does in your office. On the opposite end, Dakine offers several lower cost wheeled laptop bags that are basically backpacks on wheels, with the storage capacity to prove it.
Clearly, wheeled laptop bags are the way to go if you have a ton of stuff to carry, however they're not for everyone. However, for the rest of us, they are nothing short of a lifesaver, and are worth every penny.
